Anyone got a recent report from the Cave? May take advantage of this nicer weather and sneak off from work for a day at Cave Run. I know the surface temp is around 80 but was wondering if anyone has caught any recently. I haven't been for a couple of weeks. Thanks much.
Hey guys,
I know this thread is pretty old but I thought I would give you all some info about the Cave. I growed up fishing the lake and river and have fished it from one end to the other. I have recently moved to GA so I will give up a hot spot that I alway's do well in the upcoming colder months.
Launch your boat out of the state ramp right before you get to Longbow Marina. This is a big pool of backwater and will be low during the winter drawdown. Motor out (slow) and find the creek channel. Spider Rig back and forth along the small channel and I guarentee you will catch fish. I don't know why they come up in there when the water is cold, but I have been catching them in the backwater for years and they keep coming back.
This area will not be productive until the water gets down in the 40's.
Hope this helps and if anyone needs help on Cave Run, send me an e-mail and I will give you some more specific spots to catch the bigger fish.
Are you talking about East of the marina or back through the cut through area west of the marina? I have bass fished in these areas but never crappie fished there. Email me @ [email protected]. I am interested in this area and would love to get into some crappie.
