    Smile green river??

Hi there gentlemen, I have been reading your posts for a couple of months now and decided to try and post one myself.
Any way I want to take my Dad fishing this week and wanted any info. you can give me about green river lake. I have been there several times but never really got on to the crappie like all the stories, I hear from guys at work.
I live in Woodford Co. and usually go to Taylorsville, but I havent had much luck there either. I think I have lost my touch!! So I will try Green river a few times. My Dad is 77yrs. and loves to fish, It seems I work all the time and dont really get to take him as much as I would like. So now that the weather is cooling off a bit I took Vac the rest of the week and going to try and him him on them.
Still I believe a bad day of fishin is better than a good day at work!!
You all have a good one!!!!!!!!! :

I can't help you on Green River, but I will tell you this. Take your Dad fishing, don't worry about catching anything, just be glad to be with him. I lost my dad 30 years ago and never got the chance to do anything like this. He was only 57 years old.
Enjoy him while you can once he's gone you can't get it back. Wish I could.

I would suggest getting some minnows, fishing around the creek mouths, fishing the main lake area around Emerald Isle Marina, fishing the main lake area between the big island and the state camp ground ... start in 20ft of water and fish deep (15-18ft). If that don't work ... move shallower or deeper, according to what your depthfinder says the depth of the baitfish schools are. I would drift fish, tightline style, if the wind would let me.
Understand, too, that there are some nice size Walleye in that lake

This sudden cool spell won't drop the deeper water temps for awhile ... so I would suspect the Crappie would still be in a late Summer pattern.

This is just an educated guess, but it's what I'd start out trying.

    Kingfish 77,
Will be spending a lot of time on the Green this up-comming week myself. Have fished the Butler Creek area with moderate success lately. Will also be tring the Casey Creek area, as well as giving the Robinson Creek area that Crappie Pappy described a try. Really just learning the lake myself.

If ya see a man and woman in a 14' Lowe Jon, raise a hand. It might well be me and the wife! The Jon is GREEN if that helps:D (sorry, I just couldn't help myself)

Thanks for the info. Well we went to green river last wed. Didnt fill the boat but we had a good time. Caught 4 keepers and 5 throwbacks fished deep water like Crappiepappy said.I am still trying to learn my fish finder, dad just bought a new boat and we are trying to learn how to use all this fancy stuff.
Its a Lawrance x52 if it was telling the truth it showed all kinds of fish between 10 and 20 ft in 35 ft water. but we couldnt get them to bit good. tried tube jigs and minnows and drifting along. I think i was in the channel. Put in at state ramp went through the cut through and to the left started at the no wake buoys in front of the marina and drifted towards the water tower thats where we caught the crappie. We tried up in the creeks and around some stake beds but no luck. water to clear and shallow I guess. we may go back this Tues or Wed. If the weather is good.
Calico We will be in a Triton aluminum crappie boat with blue paint on top side raise a hand if you see us and I will look for the green jon.
Thanks again for the info and if I was in the wrong place let me know, I still need some fish in the freezer before winter!!! heheheh You all have a good one!

Sounds like the fish are still scattered. That stretch of water, out in front of Emerald Isle Marina, down to the water tower, is as good a stretch as any. Actually, you can work your way all the way around the island, from Emerald Isle Marina back to the state campground ramp ... and you would be in some good Crappie water. And when you go back in the Spring ... just fish the same area, but on the banks :p There's a whole lot of spawning going on in that area, and on banks that would surprise you.
