Crappie Wall Hanger II
Green River ???
Well guys, I can sure use some help. I got a last minute fishing trip and will meet my son at the green river lake. I normally troll for crappie but will fish for anything. It’s just a fun trip. I can’t seem to find much info about the lake. Do you long line or spider rig? August is not my best month. Any help will sure be appreciated. Thanks

Sorry I can't recommend which method to use, cause I don't use either one of those. HOWEVER, I HAVE been having good success parking near a brush pile in about 20 ft. of water. Casting soft plastic swim baits, letting it sink, and a REAL SLOW retrieve. The bite is soft, but they've been hitting. You'll have to cull the little ones.

Thanks, That helps a lot. I only have one arm so I troll instead of cast. Sounds like I'll be pushing jigs.(spider rigging). Thanks again

I don't think you'll be at any disadvantage by trolling, over casting. If your son fishes there, very much, he probably has a map of the lake. Find the channel edges, where creek mouths hit the main channel, humps in the 20ft range, and all the "usual" type areas that you'd troll in any other lake (or your lakes).Originally Posted by crip47
I don't know much about August fishing at GRL, either. But, I do know that you can always expect them to be around the "island" area of the lake. I would expect slow trolling minnows to be a good bet, as well as jigs, or even a combo of both. And, don't be surprised if you hang into something other than a Crappie.... the lake has a good populaton of LMB/SMB/KYSB, Silver and Tiger Muskie, & Walleyes ... all of which have been known to snack on a minner and/or jig :p
(I've caught 16" Walleyes, casting a Roadrunner for Crappie, along the gravel banks ... and have a 12lb Tiger Muskie hanging on the wall, also caught casting a Roadrunner for Crappie. These fish were caught in the Spring (April), but they ARE there, and you just never know :D ) I used to cast Roadrunners for years before I started casting tube jigs & such. And I've caught many a nice Crappie on the jig/plastics, there, too.
The lake is still close to Summer Pool ... it's a clear water lake, and has little standing timber in the main portion of the lake.

Thanks cp. I'll pass it on to my son. I had to cancel because my wife couldnt get anyone to cover for her.We were sure looking for a little brake.My son lives in Ind. and has fished the grl a few times. He thought it work be a good meeting place. By what I see there's not a good way to drive from Ga.Thanks again for all the help.
