Default RIP Lower Unit 2013 Merc 60HP

It was bound to happen boys, countless run hours and sunbmerged rocks in the Mighty Cumberland have proven once again, they are much stronger than the gear case components. The post-mortem exam revealed a failed prop shaft, bearings, seals, broken forward, reverse and pinion gear. Drive shaft splines are actually in good shape, but it appears that all signs point to total failure at this point. This will be the Third lower unit on the ol girl, and this time it was more of a drawn out, slow death..in contrast to the abrupt STOP that killed my last one. To make matters worse in the middle of the night my refrigerator stopped working , and as much as I love to fish, I must have refrigeration first. I have to laugh or I’d just cry.

Wow when it rains it pours sometimes. Hope you can get both fixed.

$3600 later I have a lower unit on the way and a new fridge in the kitchen. Thank god for a hot summer and lots of overtime (never thought I’d utter those words) because now I’m broke.

Ouch! I bet that hurts. Good thing is you can get back on the water though and fill the new refrigerator with some fillets.
