Equipment upgrade
Men I’ve finally “Johnny Cash’d” (one piece at a time for you young bucks google it) a GPSMAP 1222 Livescope bundle the hard way, as well as upgrading my Helix @ the console to a 10”. Going to run allthe cables today in lieu of the final missing component still in transit. When the Rite Hite turret shows up I will finally be done after close to year of saving and buying when on sale. Everything was paid with hard earned cash, no payments it’s mine o mine and if said I wasn’t excited I’d be lying. I’m still going to keep one Helix unit up front for Mega 360 and mapping. The 360 is not Livescope, but it does allow you to really get close to where you need to fish before you zero in with your Garmin. On my home lake I rarely side scan anymore I have two dozen areas that stay loaded with fish pretty much year around, and those waypoints have been marked long ago. I’m thinking on a new body of water this will help me identify structure very quickly with my approach, I side scan @3-3.5MPH or so ( many schools of thought on this but 3-3.5 is what my setup likes) marking spots on the Helix as I go. If I’m liking what I see I try and make a 100-500 yard recon run, and I generally will have more spots than I can fish in a day. Then I circle back drop the motor and start hitting those points that show up from the networked console unit. Being 360 only refreshes 3 times a minute on speed 2 I’m always viewing historical data, but it pairs will for spider rigging. You just kind of get close and blast through the cover at an enhanced crawl, .3 is my turbo mode, most days it’s .1-.2.
I know that was long winded and for that I apologize. Any helpful advice for a firs time Garmin user would be much appreciated, settings, modes, installation no-no’s etc. thank you all in advance, and again sorry for the long post. Can you tell I’m excited? Lol
