    Default January crappie

Hope everyone is doing well! I just watched the most recent ky afield fishing report. They mention crappie being caught in some lakes between 6-10 ft on brush. I find that hard to believe as cold as it’s been… I figured they would still be down deep. I doubt I’ll be driving till the lakes anytime soon, atleast until the weather warms up a bit, but I was thinking about trying the banks of the river and maybe some creeks. Anyone have any luck fishing the banks of the Ohio for crappie? Just so hard to target them from the banks for me. Is anyone having any luck anywhere right now? If so please share. I’m itching to go real bad… lol.

I've caught them off the bank at Taylorsville Lake in January (MANY moons ago) 2-8ft deep over and next to the trunk of a large fallen tree, casting a 1/16oz jig w/1.5" tube. So, yeah .... they bite all year long, you just have to find where they are at that time. Funny thing was, they thumped it just as hard as they did any other time of the year.
I might have still been fishing that tree in more recent years, during this time of year, if it weren't for the fact that flooding of the lake moved the tree (or it just rotted away ).
It was on a West bank of the lake & got Sun from daylight thru early afternoon, so the water around that tree was likely slightly warmer. The fish I caught came from about 6-8ft deep out over the main branches of the tree over about 20fow, and surprisingly several came from about 2ft deep right next to the trunk end laying at the water's edge.
