Well just got the paper and all that is left is for the Ky. legislature to vote & they always follow the recomendations of the KDWR. So com'n march 1, 2008 the new limit on Ky & Barkley Lakes will be 20 fish. You just remember what Ol'Wishers told ya. In 10/15 years they'll be look'n at a 10 to 15 fish limit. This limit isn't gonna do a darn thing for the population.
I have no problem with the 20 fish limit. My problem is the KDWR's lack of vision! Their inability to address the problem NOT THE DARN SYMPTOM!All the low population is is a symptom of poor fishery management!

Some of you need to go to the Miss board they just changed there limit to 12 inch 20 fish limit they are all glad if it helps the fishing.I have tournament fished all over i have seen Granada go down fast in the last few years, i have also fished alot in Ill and Ind if they come to Ky lake and catch 20 fish it is alot better than getting 50 in those states.I dont think people will stop coming to this lake because of the 20 fish limit.I do think they need to enforce what they make it ,but then we will all grip about the cost of fishing licensens if they get more water patrol.I know Paul Rister pretty good he is FW biologist he is doing the all he can to help crappie but he cant make everbody happy. just my2cents.
Take a kid fishing
I stopped going to Weiss Lake in Alabama because the guides imposed a 20 fish limit and now I will limit my trips to KY Lake. It is just way to far away from where I live to go catch 20 fish. Just my thoughts. I am cheap and have to watch every penny I spend. If gas was back to 1.50 per gallon it may not be as big of a deal but with the way gas is Rough River just sounds a little more financially smart for me.

I don't know personally what the effect will be.....I'm like whiskers, seems like their putting a band-aid on an open wound. I'm sure it will help, but they need to address the other issues as well. Why don't we have any more quail?
Thats Because They Like To Have Every Dollar We Give Them And Not Put It Back In Our Fishing Lakes Thats The Way With Kdwr Any Thing To Make A Dollar Ther Is Alot Of Stocking That Needs To Be Done To These Lakes Quit Trying To Make All Of Our Small Lakes Out Of Trophy Bass Lakes. Ther Hurting The Panfishing
Good point! Like I said in an earlier post. How many times do you go out & catch over 20 fish anyway? Answer; very darn few times. How many times do you go out & take a limit of Quail? Answer; darn near never! How many other people do you know that go out and consistantly catch & keep 30 fish? Answer; NONE... consistantly! That's why I say that the new limit is not going to help! The limit has already been imposed on us due to lack of fish! I have had a lot of those 15 keeper days. I know a lot of folks that struggle to catch 10 good keepers a day.Originally Posted by badbrad
Crappie are a big part of the local economy here on the north end of Ky. Lake and nothing is being done other than new limits! The people that championed this NEW limit lacked vision. I can remember the days of 100+ out of these lakes and 90% of them were White Crappie. The tables have turned and the Black Crappie have taken over but they don't reproduce at the rate that Whites do.
The population needs help but a 20 fish limit is not going to have a noticable impact. The fishing pressure is NOT the only factor that is impacting the population! But that is the only one being addressed!
If some supplimental stocking and water management practices are not implimented soon here's what our grand children are gonna be saying 20 years from now. "Boy I can remember grandpa telling stories of coming to the lake and catching 10 maybe 15 nice crappie in the good ol'days!" Then their grand kids are gonna be saying "Look, Look!" "I think it's a crappie!" "I've never seen one alive!" "I can remember grandpa talking about when you could come out here and catch 4 or 5 a day when you really got on'um!" "I hear they're good eat'n!"
Look back at history if you think the 20 fish limit will work. It used to be no limit. Then it was 60 and the population still decreased. Then it was 30. Still down. Then it was 30 with 10" size limit. Still go'n down! Now 20! For God sakes stop the darn bleeding or atleast put some blood back! Heck Energy, Honkers, and Hemitite lakes are full of small stunted crappie! Mostly stunted from over population! Use those lakes for brude ponds and transfer the dinks to the main Lakes so they can grow. It can't hurt. Every time I go to Energy I catch 100's of dinks. Moving some fish will help all of them. The KDFW wouldn't have to spend a dime. Just let some of us locals move them. I know a bunch of guys that would participate.
If you read this you may get the idea that I'm opposed to the new limit. I AM NOT! I think 20 a day is plenty. I am all for it! My argument is that it isn't the solution, and if you think it is, you are fool'n yourself!

I agree with Wisker's that most folk don't catch limits consistantly, and therefore it won't have much affect on the population. Here in Ohio, there are NO quantity limits and only a handful of lakes have a 9" size limit and thats not good either.
To me it seems obvious that the real problem is overharvest. Todays fishermen have all sorts of equipment to make us more succesfull, electronics, GPS, better rods and lines ect. More people have better boats and motors to handle the bigger lakes and better clothes to help endure the elements, All this has puts more pressure on the fish.
It's them Humminbird sideveiw!!! Caused it all!!!!!:D :D :D :D
