I have found what really works for me, and I will wrap a 1/4oz egg sinker 12” or so above a 1/16 oz jig head. I use this rig year round, it gets it down there and holds my lines nice and straight when trolling .2-.3. I’ve used 1/2oz-3/4oz with my old rods which were much heavier and could definitely handle the weight without doubling over the tip. My OCD wants all my rod tips the same spacing and height off the water, and I don’t want my rod looking like I have a bite when it’s just the weight of the rig causing the bend. I’m using 14’ Jenko Slab City rods and they are very light, with good backbone and a sensitive tip.
If you look close you can see how I rig that dude up.
