I do most of my bass fishing at Taylorsville now that gas has jumped so high again. I have an annual smallmouth trip to Pelee Island, Ontario (Canadian waters of Lake Erie). We hammer the smallmouth up there and it is only a 6 hour drive and well worth the trip.
I might take you up on still looking for some crappie on Taylorsville. I am actually headed down this Sunday to bass fish but might start out with the crappie for the first few hours. I do enjoy night fishing for crappie. There isn't anything more relaxing. The kids and I have actually taken a portable tv and sat up and watched movies and caught crappie all night long.
As far as the 2lb crappie goes, I here ya. I read on here all the time about people catching two pounders but to be honest, I question their scales a lot of the times because I know there are a lot out there but by some pictures I have seen, they look a little short to me. I did not catch a 2 pounder this year. I had a few that were real close but short by an ounce or two. The best I ever did was on Neelly Henry (note sure how to spell it) down in Alabama about four years ago. The guide from JR's place named Mark Collins told me the were only do fair on Weiss Lake and we were going to drive over to this other lake because he had put 8 two pounders in the boat the day before. I figured he was full of it but said lets go. My very first crappie was 2 1/2 lbs. My dad landed one shortly after that was over 2 lbs also. During the day, we let my son, who was 8 years old at the time pull in three others that were all over 2 pounds. So I am not bragging as much as I am telling you, you never know when they will be there. I have never caught a true 2 pounders since or before that trip. I have all of them mounted together on a brushpile hanging on my wall at home. The actual biggest I caught this year was one ounce shy and I caught it at Taylorsville. Now I want the three pounder and continue to head to Alabama each year just for that three pounder. Good luck on your search.
"You should have been here yesterday!!!
