My advice is to get on a boat with some guys who do different styles of f iij shingle from long lining, spider rigging, and pulling cranks. You will li earn talking to guys on here and reading their information.
I longline troll almost always and now learning to pull cranks. I can show you my set anytime. I'm in the Louisville area. Sorry, but I almost never have room on my boat with the wife and two boys usually filling my boat.
I recently suggested getting with an excellent guide. That's where I learned to longline with Guide Mark Collins on Weiss Lake. I've now been doing it for twenty-five years and I can catch fish going it. Soon I will switch to the crank baits. That's a different set up and more expense but nothing compared to my longline set up. I pull twelve poles when inlong line so set up cost some getting started.
As far as electronics goes. I have Lowrance with size scan imaging. It's nice but if I were buying today I would go with Garmin Panoptics Livescope. It's almost cheating. It will be a blessing for all three styles. I will be adding it within a few years.
