Glad to have you, but I can't answer the question. Someone will.

I'm sure that "at times" Spider Rigging on Cumberland is the ticket, but I believe casting jigs or using minners under a float or vertical jigging (or *Vertical Casting) around the submerged trees are the most widely used methods. (Explanation of Vertical Casting : Crappie Pappy Article as opposed to "vertical jigging")
Having good electronics, good contour map chip, and knowledge of the lake & what various water levels are best in certain areas of the lake will go a long way towards pointing you in the right direction as to what areas should be considered & what methods to use.
Luck2ya ... and hope to see reports & pics of your Crappie fishing adventures. Just be aware that a lot more people view this site than just our members ... so general info & discreet pics that don't necessarily show the bank/area you're at could keep the trolls & meathogs away from your productive spots. Just sayin'![]()
always glad to have new

yes, i have been spider rigging c-land for several years now. pretty much year around.
Spider rigging is used on Cumberland but it is not as widely used as other methods described above, IMO. Also, and glad to have you in the community.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!
thanks guys for the welcome. long time reader should have signed up along time ago. CrappiePappy and Retired2fish are right about cland. definitely better ways to fish certain times. i beat the banks with road runners in the spring. the guys that got me into spider rigging do go year around with success. so pick your poison
I guide on Cumberland, and yes...spiderrigging is effective in catching crappie there. However, is it the most effective method for LC crappie day in and day out? I doubt it. I usually have my trolling poles in the boat, but like as not you'll find me jogging and minnow-fishing the abundance of small trees around the banks. Lately, 6 to 8 feet of water has been producing good fish, even with this hot weather.
