    Default KY Lake 3/30-4/1

Heading down to KY lake for the first time Thursday after work. Will be doing a combination of smallmouth bass and crappie fishing. We are staying near the dam on the LBL side (the sailboat place). We have a go fast boat so we might head all the way down to blood river. I'm not looking for specific spots, but colors, depth, location (backs of coves, points, channel swings etc...) would be appreciated. Red/White Triton TR-20 200 HP Yamaha MO registration 3 people in the boat say hi if you want.

    Thanks,
    Koko

    Thumbs up

Just got home from Ky lake and the action was HOT! We fished Sunday-Tuesday and had limit everyday. Sunday we spider rigged almost all day with minnows on top of drops in 8 to 12 ft of water, Monday and Tuesday all were caught casting roadrunners on the bank and submerged structure. Alot of males on the bank sporting their spawning colors!

Went Saturday and Sunday. We killed em. Caught limits both days. Sunday we were almost done by 10:00am. Start early if it is sunny, but that should not be a big deal with the weather forcast. We had tons of success on darker colors but to be honest, when they are on, they are on and going to hit anything. Caught most of ours in the 7 to 8 foot range. We fished Blood River on the b ig flat toward the back of the river. Just look for all the other boats but don't always go by them. I let them tell me where they were and start to look around from there. I long line troll so I cover tons of area on each pass, so it doesn't take me long to find them. You might drive down to say Irvan Cobs Marina instead of driving on the main lake all that distance. Fast boats are great but if that water gets up and the weather turns, you will regret your choice of trying to drive a boat out on that main lake. Good luck!!!!

How long do the crappie usually stay in the shallows to spawn? We are heading down on Sunday night and fishing all next week. Thanks for the info.

They should be shallow the whole time you are down. Looks like you hit it "right"!

Not a single fish had a bloody tail out of the bunch we caught either. The males sure were showing off their colors though!
