I think I would save a bit and get a helix 9 DI maybe sell the 2 older units to go towards that.

I recently upgraded my 899 with the Helix 9 ci hd si at the counsel and am very pleased with it, now I want to upgrade the front HB 597 ci hd with GPS. With the budget I have I can either get the down image or the sonar with GPS, right now I have both and switch back and forth quite a bit, about 50/50, would like some thoughts on which one others would choose?
Thanks,
Ray

Using the money from sale of 899 to help offset the cost of the Helix 9 at the counsel and will sell the 597 to offset the Helix 7 at the bow, you use the DI more than sonar?
Ray, was it me I would go with the GPS. That way you can mark waypoints then down load and load into console unit. I also have a 597 on front and rarely use the DI. Use 2d and GPS split.

I pretty much use my 597 like you do, going to upgrade to the Helix 7 up front so I can interlock the two, when I scan with side image and mark spots I will have mark up front too. Don't have to swap cards. Plus larger screen will be a big plus.

Ray, be patient for a couple more months and save an extra few hundred bucks and get at least a nine inch screen. You’re going to want one anyway. The prices are dropping so quickly you’ll be mad at yourself for not waiting. Just as the five and seven are becoming more affordable for us crappie guys, so is these bigger screen units. I bought a twelve, slightly used, for twelve hundred bucks. I had fifteen hundred saved in route to getting a new one when I got lucky and got this one. Be a little patient and you’ll find a nine for the price you can afford. Keep an eye out for guys looking to upgrade to the new fifteen inch screens. They’ll sell low to buy big. Especially right after the holidays.
Check Hitec outdoors they usually have some good deals on consignment units. 2705271900.
