Ok, I just have to throw this out there. I really enjoy reading some of the post on here but have to say it's pretty sad when someone post a ? For some info and the next thing you know someone is bashing something some one is offering to the public such as the motel mentioned above. I have stayed there several times and no it's not your holiday inn and its price is not either and from there side of the fence it's not all profit I'm sure and sometimes ppl just do the best they can do. Sometimes your just better off to think it, type it and then delete it.

They are under new management. Shawn bought the place last year and has done a great job remodeling every room and kitchenette. I've been staying there thru five different owners and this guy is serious about his place. As for women staying there, there's plenty of women there right now and there's been women there all three weeks I've been there. These women fish with their husbands. They're not prissy, uppity, boughie girls. They enjoy spending time away from home. I've talked to a few just yesterday and they enjoy staying there. If your wife is looking for an inside pool and jacuzzi and treadmills, then this place definitely isn't for her. Head up to Paduca and find a comfort inn.

I'm okay with both good and bad reports. It's good to see what peoples experiences are, both good and bad. I don't consider it bashing if someone had a bad experience and posts it.
I looked at the web site for the Early American Hotel. It looks to me exactly like the places we used to stay at when we went to Weiss Lake in Alabama. Heck it may even be a little nicer than some of them. I think my wife is looking more at wanting to stay at a "cabin" vs a "motel" but I'm going to pass this info and on to her and let her decide.
It's probably been close to 15 years since we stayed at Ken Lake State Park and about all I kept the boat at the marina but I had a had to unhook the trailer form my truck in order to keep it at the cabin.
It just seemed odd to me to not have boat parking available at the cabins at one of Ky's most popular destinations.
If I were coming by myself I or with my fishing buddies I wouldn't hesitate to book a stay at the Early American.

I stayed in a cabin there two weeks ago #276 and didn't have a problem parking. You do have to hop a small curb and back between some trees, but could get the boat right outside my door. Neighbors parked the same way, plugin right outside the door.

I sure didn't mean to upset anyone and I apologize that my remarks were interpreted in a bad way. I too have stayed at places far worse than the motel mentioned. And I too would stay at the Early American again if I was coming down without my wife. It is a very convenient location and there is a good place to eat across the street. But most women are picker than we guys are. If your wife fishes with you and you are out most of the day it may not be a problem but if your wife does not fish or spends a lot of time at the motel/cabin then a cabin setting would probably be better. I had called Ken Lake Lodge in the past and was surprised they do not have electrical hookups around their parking lot or so I was told by the person I talked to on the phone. I have a trip planned in May to Lake Wheeler in Alabama and they have electrical hookups around their lodge's parking lot for fishermen and boaters. It only seems logical for some place like a State Park at a major lake to have electricity available.
