Hey bubba. How's it go'n. By the time July rolls around as you probably know the crappie have mostly moved out to the main lake. Usually if you can find some cover or good drops or a combination of the 2 you can catch crappie on the main river channel in about 15' or so of water. Trolling and spider rigg'n these areas is a good method that time of year.

I would suggest that you go to www.kentuckylake.com and join the fishing reports forum. Get with a fella we call Oldguide and get hooked up for a day of fish'n. It will be money well spent if you want to go home with some fish. Even if you don't hire him he is usually good about giving some good advice. You can also find out about a good place to stay on that site also.

Bubba, Same advice here. Old Guide has a good rep. Big lake lots of water cna make for a good sight seeing trip for a first timer. It is hard to find fish on such a big body of water. A pro can help you find the right sorts of locations and then after that you can search out the same types of water. I think it will be money well spent. I still intend to hire 1weezer for a trip to Big Sandy this spring for my son who lives there and is starting to fish on his own.

Getting a guide the first time is the way to go. I've also been out with Richard Williams a couple of times. One spring trip and one late fall trip. I not only learned about the type lake structure to look for, but increased my overall fishing knowledge. Always caught some nice fish, but I was more interested in learning the technique. I've used the techniques I learned on my lake closest to home and have managed some good success. I'm still learning each time I go out, but my fishless days are over. Give Richard a call, it's hard to beat the Big Sandy! my 2cents worth.

Bubba, Yes, you can still find fish in July on Kentucky Lake. You just have to move out to a little deeper water on the drops. If I can help you in any way feel free to email or call me and I will be glad to give you any information that you might need or you can call Richard, like the other guys said, and he will be glad to help you in the same way. If you need his number call or email me and I will be glad to give it to you. You can get my email address or phone number from my webpage which is listed at the bottom.

    Hi Bubba,

I am Old Guide, the one Wiskers and Bandit spoke of. I appreciate their kind words and I will do whatever I can to help you. The larger bays like Blood, Jonathan and Big Sandy hold crappie year around. And they are rarely fished for during the summer months. Winter is another time they are under fished. I would really like to build my clientele during summer, fall and winter. This is a year around fishery, not just spring time. And the good thing is the fish aren't as bothered by cold fronts in summer and winter. They are a little deeper and we don't always see the extremely heavy rains, pressure changes and temperature drops like we do in the spring time.

And as far as that Richard Williams fella, don 't tell him I said this but you won't find a nicer guy or guide! Richard is a buddy of mine and we often recommend each other. He works Big Sandy and the Paris Landing area. I fish that area but concentrate more in Kentucky waters. And he would be more then willing to help. My web site is www.kylakefishtales.com and email is [email protected]. Richard is available at [email protected]
