I haven't been since last Fall. If I'm not mistaken, the ice has just melted off most of the main portion of the lake ... but, there may still be some up in the creeks (though, that won't last much longer - if, in fact, it's even still there).

There have been some members that have reported catching some keeper Crappie from there, in the last year or two ... but, I've only managed to catch dinks :D
The lake only has Black Crappie, and some Blacknose Black Crappie, so they should start cruising the shallows before too long. Look for them to start coming shallow when the water temps get around 50deg ... or after a 3-4day stretch of warm days (>50degs daytime highs).

Do you have a map, showing where the stake beds/buckets/mats are ?? If not, reply here and I'll post one ... or a link to one. Most of my CCL fishing has been from the banks, around the ramp areas, the handicap area, and the dam. I don't go there with the idea of catching Crappie to bring home & eat ... I just like to catch 'em for the fun of it -- a little "mental health" treatment trip, to stem the "working man's blues" or "cabin fever" :D

If/when you go ... please report back and let us know what the situation is, down there ......... luck2ya ... cp

I got a good friend in Danville and I plan on coming up and taking him for a couple of days in April. He fishes from the bank and manages some bass and bluegill. This lake is fairly new?

I hope the crappie will be better this year on Cedar Creek. That lake has been a big disappointment for me. About 1 1/2 years after it opened, we were catching some nice bluegills, but they seem to have gotten smaller every year since. I have never caught a keeper crappie out of the lake. I don't bass fish so I probably won't go back unless the fishing for panfish/catfish improves.

Cedar Creek Lake is quite new. It was impounded for two reasons - a trophy Bass lake, and a financial asset to Lincoln County (and local businesses). The intent was to have Bass, Bluegill, Shellcrackers, Black Crappie, and Channel Catfish only. It would appear, however, that the killing off of "all" the resident population of the original creek, did not work. Either that, or some "well intentioned, but ill informed" persons have introduced some unwanted species (Gizzard Shad, Green Sunfish, Longear Sunfish). The original idea was for the Bass & Channel Catfish to be the dominant predators, and keep the Crappie & sunfish numbers in check (allowing them to grow larger). The "introduction of" or "surviving population" of Gizzard Shad has put that idea into the realm of "wishful thinking". And the "other" sunfish populations, are just a drain on the foodsource.
The Black Crappie, Shellcracker, and Bluegill are being passed over, by the Bass & Channel Cats, in favor of the Gizzard Shad ... allowing them to overpopulate, and slowing their growth rate.
Here's a link to the KDFWR article on CCL : http://www.kdfwr.state.ky.us/cedarla...vPath=C101C293

Bank fishing on CCL is "limited", at best. The "beach" is in place, but the "Marina" is still in the planning stage. A boat is still the best option, for reaching any appreciable number of fishing spots or water depth. .... luck2ya ... cp

I usually make a trip to Watts Bar Lake (E Tn), a couple of times a year (usually April & Oct). When the opportunity presents itself (aka when my fishing partner is invited, by his boss .. who happens to have a house on Weiss) I do take the occasional trip to Weiss. At present, those are my favorite road trip options. Other than there, I keep my eyes and ears open for favorable reports from more local locations ... Taylorsville, Herrington, Green River Lake, and Cave Run Lake. Though, due to conditions outside of my control (aka work schedule), I've not been to these lakes much in the last few years. Those conditions have changed, this year, and I'm in hopes of being able to get back to them, alot more often. ....... cp

Some buddies of mine were on Cedar Creek Sat fishing for bass and said that the water was 37 degrees with floating ice. There was only one bite during the entire tournament.
