I don't use minnows much, anymore ... but, when I did, I bought them in Lexington & transported them (bagged w/oxygen). They sell minnows at Settlers Trace Marina, but they may not have any or have stopped having them for the year (someone else may know). They're not likely to be "cheap" at the Marina, either, if they even do have them.

Best ramp to use is the Settlers Trace Marina ramp, IMHO. But, as far as the "ramps" themselves, any of them are decent ramps. I've used them all, at one time or another, depending on which part of the lake I intended to fish. But, being as the lake isn't all that big and where I normally fish is closer to the Marina area of the lake ... I've taken to bypassing the other ramps, in favor of the Marina ramp.

I fish Taylorsville mostly casting jigs (jighead/plastics) and marabou Roadrunners. In fact, I was there recently & fished behind people using minnows at a couple of my favorite spots ... and caught fish after they'd left.

    My suggestion would be:
Get there early ... find downed timber (laydowns) on shaded banks ... fish shallow & close to bank/wood.

Gabe as far as the minnows go Settler Trace gas station, Elmars Bp , Elk Creek Grocery , Briar Ridge General store all have minnows I do believe the settlers has the best of the bunch much more hardy and last longer, as far as best place to launch really depends on where your looking to fish and style of fishing , state ramp is usually not as busy with pull through spots but you do have to travel through the long no wake around the marina, settlers trace has a wider ramp but parking is a mess and gets really busy and you still have the long no wake, chowning lane ramp is pretty small but gets less use and puts you ruffle mid lake with lots of timber close but windy back roads to get to the ramp, Van buren is on the upper end of the lake where the river comes in very small
Lot but again not usually very heavy traffic but the water shallows up really bad in this area one must be very careful to stay in the channel and watch the large mud flat with water down right now and as far as the fish get there at day light they seem to be much bite early hit the timber and watch your electronics they seem to be piled into certain spots and absent in others and be prepared to take your time wouldn't wanna tear a hole in the hull on the many stick ups now visible from the low water due to lack of rain

... I didn't even think about the Marathon gas station at the top of the hill, before you turn down Settlers Trace Rd to the Marina/ramp. That would be a great place to buy minnows, if you didn't want to transport them (& was launching at the Marina ramp). They make some great sandwiches, too !!

The Possum Ridge boat ramp would be my second choice, but only on busy Summer weekends. I had no problem launching/trailering at Settlers ... last Sat or yesterday. Parking lot was only half full on either day, and I didn't get there until around 9AM on either day. The "ripping/jerking" boaters are few & far between this time of year, so the ramp is much less crowded. It will be less so as temps cool down.

The "no wake" zone buoys have been extended from where they were in years past ... or it seems that way, anyway. But, it doesn't take but a couple of minutes to idle out from the Marina ramp. And if you launch at Possum Ridge ... you'd have to idle twice as far in order to get to the main portion of the lake.

There have been reports of vandalism, in the past, at Chowning & Van Buren ramps ... and Vultures eating the rubber stripping from vehicles (mostly in the Spring, though). I haven't heard of any such reports from the Possum Ridge or Settlers Trace ramps/parking areas. I just don't like the long UPHILL walk at the Possum Ridge ramp.
