I have always had the best luck on channel ledges or drop-offs that come close to a point or the bank. I don't ever really worry about brush or structure as a matter of fact I avoid it if I can due to hangups. Thermocline is the key in the summer I usually catch fish 1o feet or less deep. Getting anchored well is important as strikes can be very light. You may not get bit until 12 or 1 in the morning I you have shad up just be patient
