It might get better on gills as we get closer to the June full moon. This has been the strangest and worst spring I've had on redears in my 25 years of chasing them.

I decided after work to head out and try to catch some redear and bluegill. I had been busy with work and other obligations so i hadn't made it out in about two weeks, but I thought they should still be on the beds. Fished from 9 am til about 12:30 and caught two little bluegill. Is it all over?

Just got back from Little River bluegill was good, but only in spots. Crackers were right there with them.

I hope you have help cleaning those. I'm too old to do that many by myself now. Great catch.
What a pile of fish!!

I'm back up here in the Louisville area working, I haven't fished in about 10 days. The last time on Barkley my wife caught three dandies that went between 1lb8oz-1lb12oz.
I fished my butt off for them from mid to late April to late May this year and did best around the full moons and new moons. We caught 21 crackers on the Friday of the May full moon. I write all of this stuff down, that way I can refer back to years gone by and when we did well.
A guide who is what I would call an authority on redear, told me he caught 150 big ones in early May and then the cold weather came in and forced them back to deeper water. He also told me the redear are doing great in KY and Barkley Lakes. He caught his biggest redear ever in early May, it was over 14inches and weighed between 2.5-3lb.
I hate the fact that they are so hard to locate outside of Spring. We are moving down to Barkley in about 6 weeks, I plan on fishing deep water humps along the channels to see if I can pattern those redear this summer and fall.

Some of My usual spots didn't produce any so we had to work a little harder than normal. But we did find some new spots. We go every year after Memorial day and fish the same areas, only fished for a day and a half. Cleaned fish for about 2 hours but that's the easy part!
