    Default Rough River Crappie

Anyone know what is up with Rough River. I fished there two years ago for the first time in many and we did great. We caught tons of limits and some were fairly good size. Last year, I didn't have the same luck. I heard rumors that they were going to drain Rough River a lot like they are doing at Cumberland. Is this true and what effects do they think it will have on the crappie.

They drop Rough River Lake every year ... back to the old river channel, in most cases.
I haven't fished Rough enough to answer your question ... but, suspect that it goes through cycles like most of our other lakes -- couple of years of less than keeper sized fish, followed by a year or two of Slabs, then back to dinks. It just depends on how good of a spawn they had ... 3-4yrs beforehand. ..... cp

Thanks..... but what I had heard was a drain down like at Cumberland for repairs to the dam that would keep the lake down. Someone told me that houseboats were being told to move. Strange thing is, it sounds just like what is happening to Cumberland so I am guessing it might just be a mistake of what lake was being worked on.

    Thumbs up Thanks Larry ..

I didn't know that. Guess we should expect most of the older dams to start needing major repairs .... it's that way all over the nation. ... cp

Well that is good news. They are doing work but sounds no worse then it has ever been in the past. I know they always draw it down a lot during the winter. Anyone have any thoughts of what kind of a crappie season we should have this year on Rough.
