Default Headed to Cave Run for the first time any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Takin the wife and kids down this weekend. I've never been to the lake. I'm hoping to spider rig but I'm set up to fish about any species that swims. Can't find a decent fishing report online. Any advice or a general area of the lake. Hollar if ya see me I'll be in a 2072 center console with a camo wrap, 2 light bars up front, Yammy on the back.

Tucky ... she's 7ft over Summer Pool & falling "almost" a foot a day. She was seriously flooded from March to June, steady at pool in June, and jumped up about 12-14ft in July with all the constant rains & downrange flooding.

Last I heard was fishing at night on the main lake brush piles. With the lake getting jacked up so much over the last few months, I don't know if a thermocline has set up or not. There "was" one in June @ 18-20ft ... but I don't know if this latest influx of water has changed that or not.

Don't know if this will help any, but here's a link to a map showing where KDFWR placed fish attractors ... and if you click on the attractor icon it gives you 3 different types of GPS Lat/Long coordinates.

I haven't fished Cave Run since last Oct, or I'd have better info.

Hello TucckyBoy,if u not never been there. You will have to buy a National Forest pass, the cost is $3.00 daily or 30.00 annually,it will cost u $50.00 if vehicle is checked and no pass. Asked how I Know. Like Pappy said the lake is 7ft.or so over summer pool if U put in at Scot's creek ramp u will have to wade 3ft or so water to get to the courtesy ramp,if u have to put your boat in without assistance. The bruhpiles pappy is talking about, that is put in by KDWLf is placed on the 20' foot contour so looked for them in 27 to 28'. I would find the brushpiles and mark them, then u could eased up to them doing the spider rigging or u could cast to them.

LittleJohn .... those "passes" are basically "parking passes" (launch fee) and according to the government website (Ag Dept) :

Boat ramps: Cave Run Lake has 12 ramps for boat launching. A fee pass is required to use Alfrey, Claylick, Poppin Rock, Long Bow, Scott Creek and Warix boat ramps. Passes may be purchased at local vendors or at the Cumberland Ranger District office.

That's why I've always used the main lake Twin Knobs ramp to launch from.

Go EASY up in the river, fish the standing timber. Seen a buddy on Facebook and he is catching them that way. DON'T GO FAST lots of trees you can't see in 50 fow.
