Ain't no Striper or Hybrids in Cave Run, and the White Bass seem to be very cyclic (or so I've heard). I've fished it since it was first opened, first for Bass, then a few trips for Muskie, and then in the most recent years (last couple of decades) it's been mostly Crappie trips in the Spring & maybe one Summer night Bass fishing trip every couple two or three years.

Not often, but have fished "specifically" for Catfish on a few rare occasions. Mostly at Taylorsville Lake. I seem to catch my fair share of Catfish when I'm Crappie fishing, anyway.

I'm mostly inclined to fish for Crappie (for food), & Bass & Hybrid Stripers (for pullage), though if my fishing partner Carl is with me ... he gets the Bass & Hybrids to eat.

I know this thread is getting dust on it, but I am wondering how You did and if You learned anything about Cave Run TuckyBoy? Me and a Buddy are coming down the first week of Oct to camp and fish, I found out the 2 campgounds dont take reservations after Sept 28th, it becomes first come first serve, so I concerned about finding a place to camp for 3 days in October, and then I of course want to fish Crappie, but My buddy cant resist throwing for Muskie, here and there, which is breaking a rule of mine, I believe You need to launch your boat and target one species, oh well I will let You all know how it goes, Cave run is a beautiful lake, just havent ever fished there.

The crappie fishing for me was...humbling. Did do some good runnin a trot line for cats. Caught a fair amount of smaller crappie but not what I expected. It was a learning experience though being a foreigner to the lake and I plan on going back. My wife wasn't interested in trolling 0.7 mph in an aluminum boat in 100 degree weather. She wanted to be in the water drinking beer. I had to end up doing a fair amount of that to stay out of the doghouse. Headed to Cave Run for the first time any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Doghouse can be a lonely place I've found. Hey Tuckyboy where did You camp at? I am looking for phone numbers for the 2 campgrounds down there, so I can find out if I will be sleeping in My truck or not?

Tom I have stayed at Dee's cabins. It is a nice little cozy spot.
