    Default Green River 1-1-07

Well alright then...Happy New Year y'all. I fished Green Sat. and today. Did pretty good both days. Brought home a limit on Sat and only fished 3 hours today and had 19 keepers, 2 Walleye, 1 Catfish, and something that I never got to see. You know it had to be a Big one!! Actually, I was slow drifting a 1/16 tube jig in 20-25' of water, felt the "thump" and my rod tip went toward the water. I thought dang this is a good Walleye, then the line went slack, yeppers it took my jig and left town. Don't know what it was but it was a good "feeling" fish.

Right now the fish I am catching are in 20-30' of water holding somewhere around 17-25' deep. I am backing off the structure and casting beyond it. I count down the 1/16 tube jig to about 20-27 1/1000's, close my bail, and raise my rod tip to around 10 O'clock position. I let the tube fall slowly back toward the boat and every now and then I may tick the rod tip to make the jig "bonce". This is my favorite way to fish for them when they are deep. I LOVE THE "THUMP"!!

    Good luck y'all.

Thumbs up Excellent report Fred ......

and thanks for sharing your "method". Glad to see ya got into some of them Green River Lake fish.
If you're ever down there in mid to late Apr ..... cast or troll a 1/16oz Chartreuse Roadrunner around the mud flats (at the end of the State Campground) and all along the "beach" (in front of the campground). If there's any Slabs in the area, looking for a spawning bed, you'll know about it REAL QUICK !!

That "big one that got away" could have been most anything .... Smallmouth, Muskie, Walleye, Catfish, Drum, Ky Spotted Bass, Largemouth, or a "Big Momma" Crappie :p .... sorry you didn't get it, but it's still there and you've got its attention/address, with your bait choice and method !!

That's a very good way to celebrate the New Year! Sounds like a very nice catch. I need to head down that way someday soon.

Fred, good catch. I've never fished Green for Crappie but have many times trying to catch a musky. I always see quite a few Crappie fisherman there. Believe it or not I caught a 49 1/2 inch musky there that weighted 39lbs! I've pretty much given up on the musky fishing.....to much work for not enough result. I'm all about crappie now, so I'm problem gonna try it out this winter. Save some for me, Ha

Brad; I also Muskie fish Green. You are right there are some dandy's in there. I usually start fishing for them in late June-Sept. I troll Swim Whizz's and do pretty well. They are a very good fighting and eating fish.
