While fishin on ky lake on the lbl side in a bay I had a school of big head come by, my queston is, can I shoot one with my handgun? A 30 lb bighead 6 ft from me and no one in the bay but me makes a very good target.

I think eventually there will be a lifting of some current restrictions on taking them such as snagging. I seriously doubt any of the methods will include firearms.

I can see where you got your name....bullets can ricochet off water.
PS - when I was a kid (many moons ago) I tried to shoot a carp with a 22. I didn't work out too good.

They graded the roads you were talking about after I talked to you. Thanks

Glad to see you ricky & yes I saw them repairing the road. Crappiemax I have owned 22 cal firearms for 60 years & never had a accident. I have frog hunted for years & never had a bullet ricochet while shooting frogs & yes I have shot carp & buffalo. I have seen 22s ricochet off water but the angle from which I was looking at standing on the bow off my boat & 6ft from me with most of its head exposed is a very inviting target. I know shooting 1 carp is a drop in the bucket but a very good target. And I now have my target pistol with me. Will be seeing you ricky I am starting to redear fish now, caught 1 that weighed 1lb 3 oz thursday.

When I was a kid we shot carp in the backwater and gar and turtles in the river and creeks.

I'd be willing to bet shooting carp from a boat in the lake would be a good way to lose your pistol and lighten up your wallet too. It does sound like fun, but I wouldn't chance it.

Somebody asked the same question Kentucky Afield. They had C.O's and biologists fielding questions via email. The C.O said it is against the law to discharge a firearm into the water. Sure does sound like fun though. How bout a guide service where u could pop em with shotguns. That would be hoot.

I had thought about getting a bow to keep in the rod locker for encounters with big heads. I have seen severe times I could have taken a shot at one during the summer.
