    Default Rough River Lake....

was planning to take a neighborhood kid crappie fishing on Rough River Lake on Saturday, I've never fished this lake and was wondering if anyone could provide some insight. Thanks in advance.. Where to launch, locations to spider rig or cast, minnows or tube jigs.. etc..

The lake is full if crappie. You will have to weed through the small ones though. You should get a lot of bites. It is one of my favorite lakes to fish, especially bass fishing. If you go up south fork or north fork a little ways start fishing the channel bends. There will be isolated wood along the banks. Just cycle through it with a jig and bobber till u find a few spots that hold fish. Then just milk run em. The lake still may be low so watch for the channel swing and use common sense. If it looks treacherous just idle. I like it up the creeks better than the main lake. Water color should be fine by now; it always has a little stain up north and south fork. I fish it shallow all winter and spring for crappie. If you want to use minnows you can, but I find I slows me down. I've always had luck in the spring with a kalins grub in black, blue and chartruce. You will have a lot of company this weekend. Good luck

I used to catch a bunch don't around Peter Cave, but I could carry all I've caught on the north end in 4 years in a walmart bag! I have caught Bass and Bluegill galore and some nice cats by accident but kinda discouraged on North end of the lake for slabs. If they are that thick I must be doing it wrong. PM me what tactics to use, LOL
