    Default Cumberland 3/31

Fishing Creek from 8:30 to 2:00. Tried minnows, and jigs. Air temp started at 32 and warmed to 65. Water 48 when started and warmed to 52 at the end. Tried brush from 8feet to 20 feet. Only caught one keeper on a minnow. We tried various depths NOLUCK . Talked to five other boats all had similar luck. Lake is on the rise.

    Hi,
I fished Fall Creek Monday and Wednesday evening with the same results.
Lake is still rising. I suppose that's most of the problem.

You may not have been shallow enough, or far enough back into the creeks. Our tourney teams caught fish 6ft deep over 20fow around submerged trees & in 3-5fow in the heads of creeks, back on 3/30/14 ... and the water level was 706, then (& rose a few inches during the tourney).

It's 710 now, and will likely rise a bit faster with the forecast rains. As was mentioned more than once by the tourney gang ... it will be a brand new lake about every few days, as the waters rise back into those creeks. Some banks will be the same as they were 7 yrs ago, while others will have vegetation that's had 7 yrs to grow/spread.

I wish the state would stock some crappie in Cumberland to help jump start the population. With all the cover in the lake now 5 or 10 yrs down the road this lake could be a gem.

I don't think it's going to take that long.

You have to remember ... the lake drawdown for dam repair basically made a 30K acre lake out of a 50K acre lake. Now that the water is going to be allowed to rise and return it to a 50K acre lake .... and flooding all the growth that's come up in the last 7 years ... it's almost like a brand new (recently filled) lake.
The fish didn't stop spawning because of the drawdown, and they'll certainly have a lot more places to spawn, now. I'd say it'll be less than 4yrs before Cumberland has a boon in keeper size Crappie numbers.

very interesting conversation.I fish Cumberland regularly.i rarely catch many throwbacks.some days the fish run smaller on average(10`12)but 12-16 inch crappie seem to be plentiful.if there were a 20 fish creel on Cumberland like ky lake I think you would hear more about people limiting out often with catches that rival any lake except the ms lakes.it is true that it can be tough at times but we catch crappie year round.your not going to catch 100 fish to get 20-30 keepers on Cumberland like green river but if you work at it you can get good catches.the quality of fish is there.

All true true and well said. I'm in hopes some coordination between the spawn and generating electricity through this Lake will be considered to a point also.

Ran down to Dale Hollow this a/m. Launched at Wisdom Dock. Thought I'd try there since Cumberland is still on the rise. No luck. I'm really gonna' appreciate a stringer full when it happens. Lol,
