Default Ready for another ice storm?????

Forecasters are predicting up to 1" of ice to fall here Thursday Night and Friday morning. Wife is out of town so I stopped by the local IGA to find shelves already empty of bread and milk and eggs in short supply. I used to think it was all a conspiracy between the weather folks and grocery folks but after Feb 2009, most aren't willing to take the chance.

I've been getting my generator ready to run my 7 freezers in the studio if I have to. I can run a couple at a time so it was a full-time job in 09 to keep those, mine at home and my parents 2 going. They only have to be run an hour a day if they are kept closed. I am worried about 150 pounds of ground deer meat we have just packaged. I know we will have plenty of help eating it if it looks like it is in danger of ruining.

    Good luck to those impacted.

I'm in NE Arkansas, and I sure hope it doesn't end up like 2009. I got lucky on the power outage, because my neighbor worked for the power company. I was only out for about 18 hours. My parents were out for 3 days, and my sister was out for 2 weeks. They're calling for us to get anywhere from 1/4" to 1 1/2 of freezing rain. Just depends on what the temps are. Good luck to you.

I am a lineman for a rural elec co-op. We serve 9 counties in southwest ky. I dont even like ice in my tea after 09. Ha ha. Hope everyone will remember the line men in their prayers if it gets bad. After 09 I put in an outdoor wood furnace, will be better prepared for my family if it happens again. My lights were off 13 days last time.

I admire the lineman as I have depended on many of them after our hurricanes to restore what we take for granted every day…..be safe and God Bless…..

I got the generator out and fired it up to make sure it would run. I filled all the gas cans up and bought enough food for a week. I am ready...but not willing.

I was gassing my truck up last night and there was a guy in a new Chrysler van filling up 6 5-gallon cans of gas and putting them in the back of the van with his wife and kids in there. Nothing like risking your whole family over an ice storm.

Crossarm, you guys be careful out there. We had a lineman from Minnesota (I think) killed near here after the 09 storm. I watched crews from NC work on pretty much every line in SE MO during my snow goose hunts the whole month of Feb. Seems like they worked pretty much that whole year restoring the lines that came down.

Hopefully it's not as bad as 09. Hats off to you guys that have to try & repair all that damage. I work at a Electric co-op myself & all you lineman are appreciated.

Hats off to the lineman here and those fro Miss, Alabama and the Carolinas that came to help in 2009. I put in propane fireplace logs and a ceramic heater in the basement so I will have heat. If I lose power will have to unload freezers and take to friends with power and freezers, or stand in line and hope I can find a generator.
If this fails and powerout for a long time (11 DAYS in 2009), then telling the wife and daughter go stay with her girlfriend, I'm cleaning out the freezers and flying to Florida to crappie fish with friends wintering there. Beback when the power is back on. Best of luck to all, be safe and don't take any chances.
