Thumbs up Feasting on Crappie ...

after a successful weekend trip to Green River Lake.

Thanks to Slabeye & Chucky, family & friends & I will have fillets of Crappie to munch down on for several meals. (I've already started munching on my part of this bounty ).

Trolling cranks & Spiderrigging minners was the way we rolled !! And I found out that a Crappie no more than 4" long will hit a crankbait as fast as they'll hit a 2" minner or a 1.5" jig/plastic ... an eye opening revelation, to be sure !!

65 Crappie @ 10"-13" was the final tally. Sorry, but I'm sworn to secrecy on the what/where/how part of the trip. I was a backseat guest angler.

Congrats on the great weekend. Funny thing about cranks on KY Lake, I have probably caught 3-4 short (less than 10") crappie all summer on Bandits. I could sink a small boat with all the 6 inch yellows we have caught and released.

Sounds like a good time was had. Rodney told me that he made some changes and got on the fish.

Thanks Mr D .... I know about the Yellow Bass at KY Lake, as I've tangled with them, before !! Also got into them at Watts Bar, some years ago, and caught so many that my arm gave out & I couldn't cast anymore

The most surprising thing, to me, wasn't the small Crappie hitting the cranks .... as much as it was the Bass NOT hitting them.

Green River Lake doesn't have Yellow Bass, but it does have Musky, Walleye, and White Bass ... so I guess if one pulled/pushed cranks long enough, there, they'd run into one or the other. I've already experienced the Musky ... I have a 32" Tiger Musky on my wall, that hit a 1/16oz Roadrunner (UL El Cheapo spinning outfit w/4lb test line) that I was using for spawning Crappie back in April 1983. And I've caught legal size Walleye, doing the same thing & using the same bait
