Herrington is one of the toughest lakes to catch Crappie from !! You would likely do better at Cedar Creek, Taylorsville, or Green River Lake. As the weather cools down, these lakes will "heat up" !!

I tried Herrington today with no luck for crappie. I did pick up a couple of bass up on minnows. Water was clear and temp was 75.5 to 76 degrees. Cooler water temps and I'll catch a few nice ones. Not much traffic on the water today. Didn't feel like taking the long drive to Green or Taylorsville...I'm only 30 minutes from my driveway to sitting in the water at Herrington....that includes stopping to get minnows. As far as Cedar Creek....too crowded and every crappie I've caught there are small and thin enough to read a newspaper through. They may be in there...and I may have caught one or two, but that may have been years ago and I don't remember them.

so it sounds like you dont want to drive to any place other than herrington. here is my tip to you!!!! there probably isn't 2 people that fishes herrington that would post on here. and here is why, it has took them years to figure out how and where to catch them and they aint telling nothing. the other reason is probably because they are old men and dont know a thing about a computer. so go around to the docks and ask the old men fishing. but there is one man that fishes on canerun dock his name is Jason (slabslayer1 on crappie.com) he know everything about herrington lake. all you got to do is ask and he will tell you the same..........

LOL !! Slabeye has a point. I've fished Herrington for over 50yrs, and I don't fish it consistent enough to keep up with the Crappie movements ... so I don't offer any advice.

Cedar Creek Crappie have grown past the short stunted thin enough to read a newspaper through phase .... or so I'm told. I can't advise anyone on how to fish there, either, since I haven't ever used minnows at that lake ... only jigs & Roadrunners. Now that the 9" size limit has been removed, and people can "legally" take a limit of the smaller fish .... the numbers should be down, but the average size should be up.

Taylorsville Lake went through the "read a newspaper through" phase, decades ago ... but, with the stocking of Threadfin Shad, they've come back pretty strong.

It's all a matter of learning the lake, learning the nuances of the Crappie in that lake, and learning the techniques that work on that lake and when/where to use them.
