Last week my wife and I were fishing for Crappie in the early morning and Cat Fishing in the afternoons. We caught several Slabs and alot of nice Cats. We were fishing for Cats at about 45 ft. when she pulled this in .It put up a heck of a fight. I have fished Kentucky Lake for aot of years and this is the first Eel I have seen there. I have seen them in the Salt River, but never caught one. Caught this one on a piece of chicken. Has anyone else seen these in Kentucky or Barkley?

I guess they must be around in some numbers then but I never saw or caught one. Wonder How rare they are?

I read some interesting acticles on them after she caught this one. Some people eat the dang things. I guess they are pretty plentiful, I just never saw one in any of the Lakes.

The "Fish ID" booklet, put out by the KDFWR, lists the American Eel & the Chestnut Lamprey as being found in, or native to, Kentucky.
I've seen one, caught from the Ky River (@ Clays Ferry) ... back when I was a teen. We cleaned it & sold it, along with some Freshwater Drum, for pop/snack money

We use to jugfish the lakes and seemed like anytime the jugs got to close to rip-rap we would usually catch one.

I remember us catching some when I was a kid from Eddy Creek that is now under Barkley.
Several years ago I was fishing in the dead of winter on Lake Sinclair in GA at the warm water discharge of the power plant. My buddy, who was fishing with me, was absolutely TERRIFIED of snakes. I hung up a jigging spoon on what we believed to be a trotline. I could feel something fighting against my pull and it finally pulled loose. I reeled it up and it was an eel. My buddy saw it and started to jump over the side. I swear! I had to talk him down from what would have been a really unpleasant swim. I had to cut the line and let the eel swim off with my spoon to keep from having to fish my bud out of the lake.

That's a funny story,but I know how your buddy feels,I don't like snakes either,and I'm standing there with the net expecting another nice cat, and this thing pops up, at first I thought it was a snake too.I would estimate that it was about 4 feet long, but I didn't take it off the hook to measure it. Do these things have teeth?
