They need to consider the other problem that they are creating by doing this...
I'm a towboat pilot & I navigate this portion of the river. By blocking off this area below Barkley you are gonna concentrate the fishermen in an area that is gonna present a hazard to commercial navigation. The LAST thing I wanna deal with is 20 fishing boats set'n on a Honey Hole while I making my approach to the lock! This blockage is gonna concentrate recreational craft in the channel and specifically in the lower approach to the locks!
These idiots can't see the forest for the trees!
Trust me... The first time somebody gets an anchor hung up in the rocks and can't get out of the way, somebody's gonna get run over or somebody's gonna crash! We can't stop these things on a dime and have to keep headway to steer! Even under ideal conditions it takes me about 400' to 500' to stop 15 loads when I'm doing 3 MPH against the current. Furthermore, when I have to back full astern in that shallow water my boat & tow are gonna go nuts. No telling where I'll end up by the time the water quits boiling!
I was unable to make it to the meetings and rally or you can bet your fanny I woulda burnt somebody's ears UP!!!![]()
