When I was little with my dad on Lake Cumberland he always slowed down when we were passing a boat that was fishing .Most of the time he would go out of his way to not bother them. But as BassTournament fishing got bigger the fishing courtesy got less and less.I have had boats on Barron River pull in and start fishing in casting range in front of me two times in the same day after spinner bait of the back of the boat they noticed me.

I wonder the same thing almost every time I go duck hunting. This year opening morning up in Illinois, had guys move in on us before sun up and it just about got em shot. They set up within about 40 yards and we didn't see them til after a buddy had pulled up on a bird that sat down on the water. Luckily he held off since we weren't sure where they were. 5 Mins later we look over and there is a guy peeking around a tree at us 40 yards in a straight line from where that bird had been sitting. Things could have gotten real bad if my buddy had pulled the trigger. There have been many times that I have arrived at the spot I wanted to hunt or fish and found someone else there...I simply move on to choice number 2. I wish others would do the same.

Fished Blood River Saturday for the first time ever. I have no clue how to fish for Crappie, but I am trying to learn and I had my Father-in-law who also wants to learn. Anyway I go out of my way to avoid everyone spider-rigging and trolling or looking like they knew what they were doing. I picked a spot close enough to the bank that I could attempt to bass fish while the father-in-law crappie fished. I idled down it about 200 yards and found some structure, turned and dropped the trolling motor to get back on the structure which was 50 yards behind me by the time i shut down and got the trolling motor down. Before i could get there someone about 1/4 mile away jumps up on plane comes over and drops off of plane just on the other side of the structure right in front of me and starts putting spider rig poles out. He is coming straight towards us. I turn to let him have the area and start going the same way as him about 50 yards ahead of him. I'm going slow beating the bank from about 15 yards out and in 12 feet of water. He comes up behind me, swerves around me and cuts in front of me. My father-in-law saw I was getting hot and said to let it go. I was thinking I could throw a rattle trap on 65# braid and catch his rear deck and let him put me. If my in-law had not been there it would have gotten ugly.

This was not this guys first time out. His boat was set up for crappie with all the bells and whistles and you would think if he spends any time on Blood River as crowded as it was Friday and Saturday he would have learned some manners

So you, as a self-professed bass fisherman, are ready to get ugly with a crappie fisherman who cut you off? I personally find that hilarious since most crappie fishermen have been cut off by bass fishermen all our lives.

First, Sorry some "bass fisherman" have cut you off, but I have never come within 200 yards of someone fishing unless I think they need assistance or there is no other option because of where they chose to fish (like someone fishin the edge of a narrow navigation channel). I do not profess to be a "bass fisherman", but I do profess to be a "polite fisherman". As my post states "I turn to let him have the area..." I believe in turn the other cheek, but I only have 2 cheeks, after that you have to take up for yourself. Yes, we would have definitely had words (that is what I meant by ugly) if my father-in-law had not been there after the 2nd infraction of fishing etiquette. Glad you found my post hilarious and I hope that no glittery boats offend you in the future. Good luck and happy fishing.

truth of the matter is they are not necessarily rude, there is just no common sense anymore. For example this past weekend at barkley we were fishing the banks up around the holiday hills reosort, on eddy creek, when a couple of guys run past us at a distance of less than 100 yards to only come back and do it less than a hour later. Man was it ticking me off.

There's only so much bank to fish. Given how popular KY and Barkley have become for the occasional angler with a fresh tank of gas bent on catching the spawn, you can expect to have people come by in close proximity or run up ahead of you. The lakes are big but the areas to key on are not unlimited... and apparently there's no shortage of gas money for long distance fishing trips. Turn on your depth finder and you can instantly see every contour on the lake and there's getting to be a lot more of people's personal structure that some goober has located and uploaded to the internet after he got home for the whole world to download.

You can either cuss and keep fishing or stay at home. Those are about the only options you have. You can almost walk across every bay on the lake on boats right now and some guys must find it humorous to use those boats as a slolam course to test out their boat's performance as they come and go.

You guys should try living here and experiencing it every time you put your boat in the water.

Chaunc and I were out on a popular KY Lake bay Friday. We had a bass boat come by us no father than 40 yards away, doing at least 60mph. There was no less than 200 yards of open water on the side he came by us but he chose to try to impress us with his $50K glitter rig at close proximity. Did we like it? No. Were we impressed? No. Has it happened before to both of us? Yes and many times for my part.If I had not been in the presence of my friend, I probably would have given the guy a one-finger salute at 40 yards but not try to run him down to kick his butt. It happens, get over it or find a nice, calm pond to fish in.

You don't need to be on KY or Barkley just any public water! I don't hold back I let them have it with full force. I might get shot or embarass whoever is with me but I am "always" curtious and I make sure that if your not you will know what I think. Maybe they will get the picture. If you want my spot wait till I move off and it is all yours. Unfortunately an older guy with his son and "grandson" pulled up on me and the wife and started casting jigs into our bobbers will fishing and you know what happen. I am sorry the Kid got caught the middle but the two older guys should have more sense than to put that kid in that position. Hopefully the kids dad told the old man to keep his distance and give others some respect. I know they have not crossed me since.

If someone comes up on my spot Ill just crank up and blow it out with my prop wash. The bass boats don't bother me if they are on plane and stay away. I hate it when they are plowing water at 15 MPH in 6 feet making a huge wake and looking at their sonar for fish that they are running off.

Usually someone that buzzes by will stir the fish up when it slows.
I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the state-appointed shrink is our friend.
