Has anybody hit any small lake or pond slabs yet? What's everybody's favorite small water bait mine is a popeye or jig tipped with wax worm or Minnie.

Nah, Slipcork ..... it's pronounced MINNER

My best small water bait has always been a 1/32oz or 1/16oz marabou Roadrunner .... but, the smallest body of water that I fish (for Crappie) in, is Cedar Creek Lake.

Yeah ... that was a problem for several years. The lake wasn't supposed to have any Shad left in it, or any other kind of fish except for the species being stocked. Unfortunately, several species survived ... including the Shad ... and the balance was thrown off.
The KDFWR removed the size limit, and made the creel limit the same as the state limit (30/day/person). This seems to have helped, according to reports I've heard. But, even so ... the lake is primarily a trophy Bass lake, and the other species present take a backseat to their fortune.

They have also stocked the lake with Rainbow Trout. (~21,000 of them, since last Oct) KDFWR - News Release
You would, of course, need a Senior/Disabled, Sportsmans license ... or a trout stamp (along with your regular fishing license) ... before being able to "keep" any trout caught.

Here's a link to a report I did on CC, back in 2008 : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/kentu...venture-2.html It won't show you much, as far as Slabs ... but, it does give you an idea of how long the Crappie have had to improve their size, since that was when the size limit was removed.

I went out yesterday on a private watershed and while we bass fished most of the time (did real well) we managed 5 crappie but they were HUGE (at least to me) with the largest about 2 lb and the smallest 1.5 lb. It was a new place to fish for me as my fishing buddy just got permission to fish it. The watershed we usually fish has much smaller crappie so the ones we got yesterday seemed big to me.
