The older I get the more I think about my retirement. I turn 62 this year. I figure a couple of more years and I'm done.
I plan on selling this current house and moving in the next few years. I feel I have a few options; 1)stay here in Cincy and visit Ky Lake 4 or 5 times a year or 2)just move to the Ky Lake area. It seems theres lots of guys fishing & hunting down there so to make a few new friends would be fairy easy so that part doesn't concern me. I know it's a popular area for retirees so I would think it would have decent medical facilities for aging populations.
So with this in mind are there some areas better to look at than other areas or are there some areas we should try to avoid. I normally come down to Hillman Ferry Campground once a year so I'm vaguely familiar with that area (Grand Rivers) but I don't have to be here.
On the other part of the equation; if I decide to just make some longer visits to the area are there any places that do longer term rentals like 1 - 3 months at a time.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hey crappiemax, Check out the Marshal County side around the Moors area. Great place to retire and Paducah is 25 mins. away with some of the best hospitals and Docs around. That is the area I have picked out for retirement. Currently have a place in Grand Rivers that we like but I want something on the water. Check out this web site. A good friend dkb23 told me about this site. Real Estate & Homes for Sale - Zillow

I bought a house in Henry County Tennesee a little over 1 1/2 years ago by Paris Landing just off Eagle Creek. It seems about 80% of the folks there came from up north and two of them came from Cincinnnati. I presently live near St. Louis
and Have a year or two to go before I can move down there full time. This area is between Murray, Ky. and Paris, Tn.
so there are plenty of stores and such close by. There are also hospitals in both Murray and Paris but I don't know much about them.
I'm really looking forward to the time I can head down there permanently and leave the stupidity of Illinois politics and the St. Louis area behind.
I'm a UC Bearcat basket ball fan (as depressing as that may be sometimes) and I know I can fit in down there but there is no way I'll be able to get on the bandwagon for UK or Louisville...no way.
My wife says I can speak redneck with the best of you guys but I do have my limits.

We own a home in Northern Kentucky, and have a place in Marshall County, and we spend a lot of time there .. AND LOVE IT! When I retired we gave some thought to moving to Kentucky Lake full time. A friend of ours asked us a good question: Where are you going to go to get away when you move to your get-away?
Just something to think about....![]()
