One word...THERAPY. Anytime I am on the water my mind clears and all the stresses of modern life, work and home just melt away and it's just you versus the fish. I have had a lot of hobbies over the years from competition shooting to bowling and scuba diving but the one that I always came back to in some form was fishing. I am a bigtime saltwater guy, driving down to the gulf about every other month but discovered this website and crappie fishing a few years ago and I've been hooked every since. I agree whole-heartedly with the old adage that a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work.

Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer!
X2 on taking the kids fishing. My grandkids enjoy going fishing with Pop, though not as much as Pop enjoys going with them.
An outdoor writer whose name escapes me was attempting to answer a similar question, "Why do you hunt?" to a non hunter lady reporter. His answer, best I can recall was " It's not that I think hunting is more imporant, but I suspect there are a whole lot more things less important, and not nearly as much fun."
Just change hunting to fishing and it still is a good answer.
