Cave Run Lake ?
Any reports from Cave Run? I'm thinking about going Friday.

I wish I had a good report for you. I haven't fished the lake in nearly 15 years, but I went the weekend before last. Fished from sun up to sun down in the rain and wind and caught maybe 20 crappie. I'll tell you one thing, that lake fishes much different than our lakes here in OH. In talking with some locals, apparently they never catch crappie on standing timber, which is the exact opposite as here. We tried the main lake, in coves, up creeks, deep / shallow, and had no luck. There were fish on some mainlake brush piles, but they were white bass. The only crappie we found were in the mouths of deep creeks on laydowns 20-22' deep, hugging the bottom. They hit both jigs and minnows. I was marking a lot of fish in the creek channel in 30-35FOW, but wasn't sure what they were, it was too windy to fish there and the boat traffic was fairly heavy from the musky guys. The ones we did catch were very small, 6-8'' on average. Good luck if you go.

Not sure why folks would tell you nobody catches crappie in flooded timber, I fish there every couple weeks or so and sometimes more often and even in the summertime crappie hold in those areas, not always monsters but 9 inches plus or minus a bit... Don't fish the main lake a lot in the summer because of the boat traffic but up the river the crappie seem to lie close to the bottom around the base of the standing timber, can usually catch a few fish to make the day worthwhile... I don't catch a lot of 12" plus fish but on occasion a few of those show up too... Probably wouldn't drive a long way to fish the lake but it's about an hour from me so I fish it a few times a month... Trolling from tree to tree along the channels you will usually see fish ganged up in certain places on your sonar and a lot of the time they are crappie, I do catch more fish in fallen tree tops but they do like to suspend in the flooded timber, it seems to me they like the pine trees better than the rest.
