I'll be there the weekend before so I'll let ya know what I find out. Just went this past weekend was on the main lake and didn't do well but really wasn't trying hard either (family time) was mostly just marking brush piles and throwing for muskie.

ok, so i am looking at taking a short weekend trip down to cave run around the 12th of october and was looking for some input on when crappie usually start to bite there? I have never fished this lake and just looking for some general info, we will probably be camping at twin knobs.

Check with ekySlabber, he fishes there some and usually does pretty good.

We put in at bangor today and fished the north fork up as far as poppin rock, didn't catch many fish, maybe 25, only had three over 10 inches with two of those 11 1/2 or 12, caught maybe 10 fish that were 8 to 9 inches... All the fish we caught were about 12 feet deep give or take a bit, most were in water around 15 feet deep.
I'll be rolling in to Twin Knobs no later than the morning of the 8th of October, plan to start fishing on the 9th with 11 days set aside for mostly Muskie fishing. For those who don't know, that is real work and I will be looking for some restful Crappie fishing to relax me a bit from time to time and rest my casting arm. I have made this trip for the last 4 years and have yet to boat a Muskie, try as I might, but have had limited success with Crappie on the main lake. Mostly I either get skunked or manage a small bag that is good for a meal. I don't spend enough time scouting the lake for Crappie to do much more than that.
I'd like some input on boating up the Licking River and possibly Beaver Creek from the main lake. I have found Crappie near the mouth of both but have yet to venture very far for fear of hitting submerged wood. I know the channel is marked but for how far and is it easy to navigate? Would this be worth the trip for a few good days here and there of Crappie fishing as it seems the enviroment should be great given the timber and laydowns or should I search the main lake more? Any advice traveling these waters would be most appreciated.
Kissfan4, Or anyone else for that matter fishing Cave Run from the 9th-19th, I'll be at Twin Knobs so contact me via PM or email and we can compare notes.

Good morning...... They are starting to drop the lake right now and will continue for a couple months it looks like so the crappie might be a bit deeper... I was there yesterday and the fishing was slow, maybe 15 fish all day and most were under 10 inches... All except 3 or 4 were caught 15 feet deep or deeper fishing a flooded pine tree in 25 feet of water.... As far as negotiating the river and beaver creek, beaver is fairly simple as there are boat lanes marked, licking river is a different story, or was, I haven't run up the river in several years so if they haven't marked a boat lane in recent years, it is quite an obstacle course... There are a couple ramps 8 or 10 miles up the river which is where I put in if I am fishing that area... Good luck to you and if you decide to run up the river, flooded trees are most everywhere so be very careful.
