How about it? Heck I'd settle on tips and what worked for you last year at this time.

Hey All,
I'll be there in two weeks for a family reunion. What are you guys doing for Crappie?
I hear minnows are tough to keep alive, so what lures, baits are you using?
Crappie Nibbles any good?
What kind of pattern are they in right now?
I'll be fishing the Blood River area. Any and all tips are greatly appreciated.
I'm figureing on fishing int eh early am, and enjoying the rest of the day with family. Might even do some night fishing.
Thanks.

I'll chime in. Now keep in mind what I'm saying is during a "normal" year. Ky Lake is yet to reach summer pool & water temps are ahead of schedule too.
As a rule this time of year I have had good luck casting Roadrunners & curly tails to points & ledges in the mouths of the bigger bays.
Best bite is usually during early morning & may continue on up in the day if there is good cloud cover & low pleasure boat traffic. I normally concentrate on the 9' to 15' stuff. Lots of times they'll be real shallow, right on top or the drop. I usually catch the Blacks this way & have had them chase the jig all the way to the boat.
Whites can usually be caught fishing a little deeper stuff, by vertical jig'n Bobby Garlands on a 3/32 or 1/8 oz jig. I like to tip with a minnow at times. Bluegrass, Blue Ice, Sunrise & Monkey Milk are good colors to try. Sometimes they'll be up high on the deeper brush. I've caught them this time of year 9' deep in 18' of water on cloudy days.
Hope this helps.

Get out on the main ledges in the mouths of the major bays and troll bandits or other deep-runner crankbaits. Try the deeper water close to the drop but not right on the drop.

Thanks folks. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. We are staying at the mouth of the Blood River. According to the Hot Spots map, looks like there are some nice ledges in the area.
How do you guys keep minnows alive in the summer?
What about using beemouths waxworms instead of minnows?
Any thoughts in Crappie Nibbles?

Never used worms on crappie but I know people who do.
I like to pump my tubes full with my Bait Pump. I'm a believer.
As for keeping minnow alive. I use 2 minnow buckets. I keep 1 of the inner buckets in my aerated live well with the lid shut. I keep most of my minnows in this bucket & only take out about a dozen at a time to put in the bucket I'm using out of. I use an aerated minnow bucket to keep them in. I try to keep the minnows in a shady spot too. I also freeze several small bottles of water & put 1 in each bucket to keep the water cooler. A couple of caps full of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in the bucket will help too.

I would use the crappie candy while vertical jigging if not biting on just the jig alone.
