    Default Cedar Creek or Linville

Off tommorrow ( Friday) & was wondering what was going on at Cedar Creek or Lake Linville. Trying to decide which direction to go so any info would be appreciated.

Here's the latest report (4/13/12) from Cedar Creek Lake Outfitters:

. "The Water temp is ranging from 58 to 60 degrees. Good numbers of bass are being caught in very shallow water on wood in the creek arms. Top water baits such as stick baits and spinnerbaits seem to be working best right now. Crappie have been caught deeper recently in 6 - 9 feet around trees on minnows. Every time a cold front moves in the crappie remain in the same areas, but move a few feet deeper (from 2-3 feet to 6-9 feet). Neither bass or crappie have spawned yet, so I would expect the fishing to really improve as the weather continues to warm the water temp back up into the 60’s. Nice hand sized bluegill have been caught recently on redworms, waxworms, and pieces of nightcrawlers in shallow water. I haven’t heard anything on the catfish this week, not to say they aren’t biting."

I may be down there, tomorrow, too. Thinking about maybe giving the Crappie & Shellcrackers a try.

My trip to Cedar Creek yielded : several hand sized Bluegill & Shellcrackers, and one chunky 15" Largemouth.

Crackers & gills were caught on jigheads tipped with nightcrawler chunks ... 14-17' deep
    Largemouth was caught casting a 1/32oz ponyhead jig (char/blugreen/char) ... <5' deep

Wind was chilly & out of the SW @ 15-20mph for most of the day, making boat control a bit tedious. (& that's an understatement Rofl )

Didn't take a water temp, but the fish were "cold" to the touch (much like the Crappie I caught at Green River Lake, out of 14' of water, my last fishing trip).

All the gills I kept were male, but the one cracker I kept was female w/developing egg sac. I'm hoping the weather & water temps will improve between now & May's full Moon, as I plan on giving the crackers another try around then.

We ended up going to Linville. Managed to put 30 hand-sized gill in the livewell. Fishing was slow & spotty. Had to work really hard to get these!! I hear ya pappy on the wind it was horrible at Linville also, fought the boat almost all day. Bluegill were caufgt on crickets under floaters 5-7 feet deep & my wife caught 2 nice largemouth on black & white popeye. Good day to be on the water in spite of the wind. Sounds like the crappie fishing still has not ended Pappy & I agree with the first full moon in May for the Gills. Maybe I will run into you sometime & would enjoy meeting you.
