Tried fishing the shallows early, but with the lake down as far as it is, I was looking at bare banks where I'd normally be catching the fish banghead Rofl
Finally tried 2poling jigs along the 14-17ft breakline, up in Robinson Creek, and caught around 20 or so. Only 5 would keep, & were given away to a man & boy that had caught about the same.
Most everyone we saw, was using minners & drifting/slow trolling ... we opted to just use jigs, and blue/chartreuse & pink/chartreuse seemed to be the colors they liked. All hits were good solid "thumps" ... and all had the jigs well inside their mouth. All the fish were "cold" to the touch, and had little color to them. Most appeared to be females, still with a belly bulge, and all were White Crappie.
Water clarity around Lone Valley & that side of the island was very clear. Where we fished, Robinson Creek, across the lake from Smith Ridge, there was good color to the water. We "heard" that Holmes Bend was muddy, so we stayed in the Robinson Creek area.
As this was my first trip in 2012 ... it was more of a shakedown cruise. Getting the boat back out of storage & running, getting more water time with my new E5DSI depthfinder, and getting my exercise & some sun !!
