Thread: Would you support this on Kentucky Lake and other lakes in KY ?

I would like to see the limit go down to around 10 per day, LOL that is still a good amount of Crappie, compared to limits on certain lakes in Other states that I have fished.

IMO a 10 Crappie limit per day is plenty, especially for locals like me, that can fish several days per week all year.

I don't think that will work for us here, their fish grow quicker, comparing Kentucky Lake to the Mississippi lakes is apples to oranges. I'm with Bigbaddad, regs are fine like they are. The Asian carp are probably the greatest threat of all to the fishery.

if the a carp does to k lake what it has to some sippi oxbows it wont be good

I think the way the regs stand now are fine. Paul Rister has stated we just finished the best 2-3 years of spawning in a while and that the next 4 to 5 years minimum will be great...now cut it out.....you did the same thing last year.go fishing and quit thinking!

LOL, I hope your right, that would be great if the Crappie numbers improved this Spring. Maybe the Grass will come back in certain areas also, the floods of the last few years have hurt the grass in certain areas on the lakes.

Grass would help but most of my fish are deeper. Unless you mean this grass!

Yep more Aquatic vegatation would be good for me, especially when I Bass fish.

I am really surprised that KY Lake could of had a record Spawn, we had the worst flooding in the history of KY Lake the past 2 years.


I talked to some Conservation officers this spring over at Fenton Boat Ramp, and he said the spawn was looking very bad.

I talked to Paul Rister last Spring also, He told me that the electorshock surveys only give a small indication of the health of the overall fishery.

He told me that electroshocking Fish really only works best in water depths of less than 10 feet.



Some fish are underrepresented in electrofishing samples, including fish that live in sediments, crevices, or underneath rocks and therefore do not rise to the surface when stunned. Electrofishing also is not effective for sampling fish that live deep in large lakes or very small fish that biologists cannot easily see or capture.



This really made me think that these electroshock surverys are better on small shallow lakes, not 160,000 acre lakes that are 185 miles long like KY Lake.LOL

So when they do these electroshock surveys, they probably miss 99.9% of the fish in the Lake.IMO


I think it's rather impossible for anyone to get an accurate reading on the fish numbers in a lake system that's 220,000 acres(KY Lake, and Barkley Lake), especially when they can only shock fish effectively in shallow water.IMO


Plus, nobody knows how many fish leave KY Lake each day and enter other creeks that feed into the lake, and nobody knows how many fish per day enter the lake through the feeder creeks.

Also, nobody knows how many fish are caught each day on KY Lake, and nobody knows how many fish are born each year during the spawn. Not even the KDFWR Biologist know this.

How about we just not allow transplants from Indiana to fish Ky and Barkley except even numbered weekdays in July.
