Fred ... Valley View is at the end of Tates Creek Road, that runs South out of Lexington. You can get there from Hall's, but it's actually on the opposite end of that pool of the river. Valley View is just upriver from the lock/dam that ends that pool... and Boonesboro Beach/Halls is just below the lock/dam that starts that pool.

FYI --- Most people call the creek "Tates Creek" ... but, I think its actual name is Tattlers Branch. Tattler Branch Rd goes across it, which is the bridge that "kygofish" is referring to. It's on the opposite side of the river from Valley View.

About 1/3 of the way from Boonesboro Beach to Valley View, you'll pass under the old state highway bridge (known as Clays Ferry Bridge) & then under the I-75 bridge. That's where I've done most of my Crappie fishing on the river ... around those bridge pilings.

I think I know where your talking about. I fished there at the dam and the beach and I saw the bridge.... Thats about as far as I can go because I fish from the banks and have no boat.... I have fished there at Halls in the creeks 3 times with jigs and minnows last month and didn't even get a nibble, BUT..... they say there are nice crappie in there.

Fred ... I don't know about now, but the land on the Lexington side of the river at Valley View used to be private. Not sure about the creek/bridge area on the other side, as I've never fished over there.

Yes, there are nice Crappie in the Ky River ... getting to them from the bank is even more tricky/problematic than from a boat, and even that's not all that easy, sometimes Rofl
You're probably going to have to just take your chances, while keeping up with any reports, and try & time your trips when the Crappie move up into the creeks ... like when spawning, or when the river is muddy but the creeks have cleared.

Thanks for all your help sir,Im looking forward to catching some slabs. Some one told me that I should try a place called Red River over in Trap area right pass Trap Grocery Store. Said it runs into the KY River.... I may go get me some red worms and a few minnows tomorrow and try it.

Went to the KY River this morning, river did not look to bad. Used tube jigs and didn't get anything.

It may still be a little early for them to be in the creeks. These cold nights & rains are probably keeping the water temps down. You might be better served to try them after a few days of warmer weather, or later in the day (after the Sun has had a chance to warm things up, if the creek is open to the Sunlight). Remember, water temps not only dictate where they'll be or how deep, but also what mood they'll be in. The days are coming that will bring them within your reach, it just may not be right now ... considering your limited range.

You might also want to try slowing down your retrieve, by possibly using a float ... or vertical jigging around steep rocky banks, wood cover close to shore, or concrete walls. Adding a piece of "meat" to the jig, or something like a Crappie Nibble or other scented addition, might also help temp them to feed. "Meat" can be anything from a Wax Worm, Red Worm or piece of Nightcrawler, to a cut strip of meat from a Bluegill or Shad.

Current is your worst enemy & your best friend. It makes your presentation difficult, but at the same time will concentrate the fish behind anything that blocks the current or creates a eddy pool.

You might also consider trying below the dams of some of the local lakes, some of the FINS lakes, or even off the banks of those lakes that have such accessibility (like Taylorsville, Cedar Creek, Cave Run, or Cumberland). You may not catch Crappie, but there's no guarantee that you'll catch them in the river, either. But, there's always the chance that you'll hang into something that'll stretch your string Thumbs Up and that's a big part of this thing we call "fishing":Hands Clapping
