Late March thru first 3 weeks of April should be good to great. Bigger fish will generally show up earlier. Plenty of places to camp around Paris Landing in Tenn. & north in Kentucky. Be prepared for weather changes. Can make a big difference on Kentucky, it can get dangerous fast. Make sure your boat is made to handle rough water. You can catch them in 20 foot one day and 2 days later they have moved to the banks in 2-5 foot of water.

Fishermen at the ramp & on the water are accomodating as long as you don't run up on them on the lake to try to mark their spots. Numerous places to camp or rent cabins or stay at a lodge. There are some places where you can clean your catch as soon as you get off the water. This can be a real time saver.

If you can think of specific questions, you will get great feedback from some really good fishermen on this site.
    Good fishing!

Big Bear resort in the northern part of the lake is good. I have stayed there many times. But book now for the spring. I know Moors is suppose to be nice also. Haven't stayed there but have went there for lunch many times.
In the event you are thinking about a guide call Rodney Hairgrove. He guides out of Big Bear. Won't find a nicer person. He is possibly already booked for most of the spring season.
Also just up the road a few miles from Big Bear and Moors is a small Ma & Pa motel called BelAir. Nice people and the price is right. I have stayed there a few times also. They are located 5-8 miles from the dam. Nothing fancy, but it is clean and has plugins to charge your boat batteries. They do have a table out back for cleaning your fish. At most of the resorts on the lake you can clean your fish right on the dock. Sure makes it convenient. Good luck.

Crappie spawning and morels popping up at the same time. What was God thinking when he made that schedule. It's pure torture every spring deciding which to do.

thanks fellas.....stupid question.....is one end of the lake more productive than the other???? is any area of the lake better??? I know 0 about ky lake other than I wanna go there, I am a pretty avid crappie fisherman, so I know various methods just dont know the lake.....would fall be less boat traffic???

BRONSON....have you stayed at any where around the lake that you would advise....also thanks for the heads up on it getting rough...I have a deep V so I should be ok there, but great advice thanks

DOWNWIND....thanks....have you been to any of those places???

CRAPPIE&SHROOMS...thank you so much, will look at those places!!!

I guess really what I dont want to happen is to book a place in a roach/bed bug infested type place.....Im not pickey, it dont have to be special being as I will prob really only sleep there....just wanna clean place, that has a place to fillet a few, a plug to charge the batterys....thanks for the info so far....have a great one all, God bless!!!

One more thing I forgot to mention. The BelAir does have kitchenettes. Like I said not fancy but CLEAN. A lot of fisherman stay there. They are about 15 minutes or less to the boat ramp depending on which one you use. Their price is right too. It is a small motel maybe 10-15 rooms. Anywhere around Ky lake in the spring books fast and early.
We used to go in the spring but the last 6-7 years we just go in the fall. Prices are about half price to stay on the lake and boat traffic is about 1/4.

Jeepguy.~~~Fishing around Jonathan Creek is not too bad since this is your first trip to the lake. Several good spots in the mouth of Jonathan Creek towards the big lake on the right as well as some of the deeper docks on the right going out to the big lake. Aurora has some nice hotels as well as places to eat, gas up, get minnows and other supplies. Have stayed at several places in Aurora but can't remember the names. Seems like Ken Oak was a good place. If there are several of you making the trip you might consider renting a house on the lake. Good Luck!

Fish Tail Lodge at Paris Landing (Fishtale Lodge On Kentucky Lake) is a GREAT place to stay! They have cabins or motel rooms. The motel rooms have electric hook ups at your front door, no need to unhook your boat. David and Sharon Seaton are the nicest people you will ever meet. State boat ramp right down the road with a fish cleaning station.

Moors resort is reasonable and cabins are clean. Good ramp and boat slips. Kenlake lodge is nice too.
