On average, I would say about 2 or 3 years. Willows make a great top but they deterioate fairly quickly. About 20 years ago I put out several green willow tops on Smithland Pool. Those tops lasted less than 2-weeks. I discovered that the beaver on those creeks surely did like a green willow tree sunk underwater.
