Like Backlash, my main purpose yesterday was to give my boat a shakedown cruise before going on a fishing trip. I normally crappie fish at Poppin Rock but with the low water was afraid to put in there to open up my boat and give her a good run.

The Poppin Rock area is defintely not where you want to run your boat full out unless you are a true river rat! It is however a great area to fish since it's only fishermen. For sure you won't see jet skiers or boat riders there. I'll be hitting Poppin Rock next week for sure.

    Question Poppin Rock Area

What kind of areas do you look for in the Poppin Rock area? There is so much standing timber where to start. I will be coming down next Thursday or Friday.A 110 mile trip from No Ky area. Any insight would be helpful.
    Thanks,

My experience is that once you put in at Poppin Rock go downstream toward Bangor ramp (away from bridge) and try nearly any place where there is standing timber/stick-ups that are along either the main river channel or any of the various creek channels. Between Poppin Rock and Bangor there are nearly unlimited places to fish. If you haven't run this section of river much take extreme care since the channel is narrow in some places and there are no channel markers like on Beaver Creek. Good luck.
