I believe that the March issue of Kentucky Game and Fish states that the last several years have been a bad spawn. I'll look up that article. I do not know whether they've been good or bad spawns but the article stated that is why the fish are big.

I don't know what they are talking about. Last year I had to catch 10 nine inch fish to get one keeper but that has really paid off this year. The creel survey guy I talked to said he is not seeing the same results from the fisherman as what the KDFW is putting out concerning white crappie population and bad spawns but I do believe the lake levels moving so much has really spooked the crappie as far as the bite goes.
Hey ifish, do I get an official t-shirt and free poles?
Great info Sixfin
Thanks,
You Bet Chris,
Check is in the mail!
Don't take this the wrong way, but the Crappie fishing simply is not as good as it once was.
Years of tens of thousands of fisherman coming here to fish has taken a toll on the fishery. It may never be as good as it once was.
But I agree that the water levels and horrible weather have been the main factor, that the fishing has been so tough this year.
We have had warming, then cooling, repeatedly, especially back in March, and early April. It would be warm for a few days, then cool for a few days, it went back and fourth, and did not want to stabilize.
Also, it seems like everyday I have the chance to fish, it is very windy, or it is raining. I wish the weather would get nice.
I will probably regret this, I don't say much and I try to mind my own business most the time, but Kentucky Lake, you are the most negative person I've seen in a long time. Every post you make starts out, IMHO or Don't take this the wrong way. Gesh man, get over it. If I listened to every word I read you post, I would hate fishing, hunting, sex (I'm married, don't do much of that anyways :D , food, life, etc., I'd like sitting around out in the yard and watch the grass grow all day.) Dang, put some sunshine in ya, you remind me of Bad Luck Schleprock (whose favorite catchphrase was, "Oh wowsie wowsie woo woo. Miserable day, isn't it?"), who was on the Flintstones/Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show.
Don't fish KY Lake, if you do, fish TN part, don't do this, don't do that, like a broken record.
Like I said, I'll probably get in some hot water over this, but dang, get over it, let it go and just enjoy the sport of fishing, and the money us out of towners bring to the lake and areas. Gee Louise............
Sorry Slab, just had to vent a bit, tired of the negative crap all the time.
Sixfin, good report, glad you took the time off to get in right there on that & get r done, come on...........
Buffalo, bless you for having to put up w/ a smart#$$ like sixfin, :D
All I can say is Amen!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your "Authorial interpretation". I do not start out with any negative remarks. I only tell people the facts or my own personal opinion. I think a very large portion of local fisherman in the Purchase Region of Kentucky, will agree that the fishing conditions have been tough this year. And many veteran fisherman will agree that the fishing is not as productive as it once was many years ago.
It is good people enjoy the hunting, fishing, and all of the flora and fauna in this area. However, it is evident that the more people who use these resources, the further the fish will be pressured and the further certain fish populations may be negatively altered.
This is not only a problem at Kentucky Lake, but it is a problem with many lakes across America.
These are simple facts. But as you mentioned we should all enjoy the resources that we still have. I plan on fishing Kentucky Lake either this weekend or sometime next week.
