Anyone fishing Dale for crappie? I have only been there a few times for smallmouth but want to go down and try the crappie.
How is the crappie fishing on the lake, quality / quanity.
Looks like the water temp is still in the mid 40s there.
Would appreciate any advice.
I like to use jigs so jig type and colors would be helpful
Thanks

Id say quality wise Dale crappie are up there close to ky/barkley fish, but you prob wont get the numbers you get on the twins because DHollow is not nearly as fertile a body of water as those river type reserviours, lots of clear deep water in dale. I think theres no prettier lake to fish than DH and always enjoy trips down there but I usually was fishing for smallies.Plenty 2lb crappie are in dale from what I hear and ive seen pics of 3 lbers from there, big ol black crappie. Its similar to cumberland which has some hog crappie too but just not gonna get the numbers like you do on more fertile lowland lakes. Id take quality over quantity anyday though to be honest. Let us know how you do if you go! Good luck.
Hi Colayn,
I agree with slabber. I guide on Kentucky Lake and in 2005 we hit Dale Hollow in April for a vacation from fishing Kentucky Lake, go figure. We rented a houseboat from East Port Marina which is up the Obey River. We anchored a few miles down river closer to the main lake. I was in my boat a few small bays further down river fishing the bank with roadrunners. Close to the bank I saw the trunk of a tree about three feet under the water extending down the bank in about 15 feet of water. I backed off the bank about 10-15 yards and trolled over the tree watching my LCR. It lit up with fish. I casted over the biggest portion, counted down 7 or 8 feet, started my retrieve and THUMP! I caught good blacks and whites off that tree all week. most were 12-14 inches with a couple bigger fish. I tried to duplicate that pattern and found another tree or two with fish but none as productive as that one. It must have had the right combination of cover, food, access to the channel, etc. One of my best trips to Dale Hollow ever!
