    Default New Years Day Report

Went fishing today as is one of my New Years Day traditions and caught several nice crappie in 24' of water along the main creek beds.Water temp was 42 degrees @ surface. Nothing like catching a good mess at the beginning of the year.Hope everyone is having a good New Years Day.

I've got a buddy of mine that for years has gone fishing the first day of the year, regardless of the weather. He is a big Musky fishermen. I went along with him several years in a row, but the past few have let the draw of college football and a big meal trump fishing. What's wrong with me?! Glad you got on some fish, looks like I need to renew fishing the first day of the year as a New Years Resolution. I can stand to miss a meal or to anyway and can DVR the better bowl games.

keith29 - I was using bright white and chartreuse tube with yellow-treuse glow 1/8 oz. jighead.I also had some minnows but they liked the jig better.

Brad - Did you get your HDS ? yet.

Yodibuzz - Last few trips have been pretty cold and not very many fish. Been skunked more than once this winter. Water is very cold for this time of year and I don't have a lot of stuff out real deep. Hard to put stake beds in 25' to 30' and get them straight up.Something to work on. Need a good Ingrams Barge Boat and a hairy faced pilot to pull some big dead trees out into the deep creeks!! Felt good to feel that thump first day of the year. Maybe a good sign I hope.

Buddy, haven't pulled the trigger on one yet, but it's definately on my "to get" list. I'm going to be working a lot of overtime over the next few months and will be saving up for one.

Brad, you will be happy when you do, used my buddys hds 7 a few times and its amazing. Ive been pricing them on ebay for months, along with the hbirds only b/c theyre cheaper and I have a good lms 527c 2d w/ gps on the front w/ rigs so gps and 2d sonar isnt much an issue. Really like the Hds but dang they are pricey, but well worth it if you fish a lot and really enjoy fishing and just prodding different lakes, spots, esp deep ones where fish stay deeper than normal. I wanna pull the trigger too but waiting on a good used/refurb one or really exceptional deal. I want a 7 at least b/c of the big screen.
