    Default I don't have a clue....

I am trying my best to figure out catching crappie, and I am not being very successful. I have spent several days a week for the last five years on Kentucky lake (even throughout the winter), but focusing strictly on bass. I can usually catch several keeper bass to a good limit nearly every time I go - and I just can't get out of the bass mentality.

I had twins 18 months ago, and I don't really have the time or energy to put into bass fishing that I used to, and wanted to get into catching some crappie thinking it would be a little less stressful and relaxing - plus add some nice fillets for the freezer.

I spent all day out on Kentucky lake (of course I understand I am just learning), and fished brush piles from 5 feet to 15 feet, and only caught a few (only one keeper size). I guess I just need to go out with someone that knows what they are doing - so if any of you all ever want another body to add to your creel limit on Ky lake, let me know - I'll pay for gas for the boat, and make some sandwiches or whatever else, just looking to learn.

On a good note, I did pull a 3 pound smallmouth out of a brushpile today on ultra-light gear - I guess that made the day worth it!!:D

You are doing just what you need to do.. Fish, fish, fish, go, go, go,go.
Yea going with someone will be good also but the more time you spend on the water the more you will figure out..
Read some of the old post and don't be afraid to ask questions.
What part of the lake are you from. I would be glad for you to go with me sometime.
Take you kids fishing today!!! They will be grown (and married and have children of their on) tomorrow. Then you can take your GRANDKIDS!

Dont be afraid of trying the backs of the creeks. Here on my lakes the crappie are herding the shad towards the back of the creeks making for some easy pickins. I longline fish pulling curly tail jigs @ 1 mph with multiple rods off the back of my boat and am also seeing people fishing live bait (minnows) spider rigging and all are catching some fish. Just remember, half the fun is finding 'em.

I live on near the North end of the lake - just about 10 minutes from the dam. I teach at the high school in Marshall County - So I am in marshall county daily. I put in at the Big Bear ramp 90% of the time I go out. That is one of my favorite bays on that side of the lake, and it isn't too far from my LBL side bays of choice.

    Unhappy same here

I have been fishing Ky. and Barkley lakes for 26 yrs. In the 80's and 90's i mostly crappie fished. then in the late 90's i started bass fishing mostly. and just go for the crappie every now and then. I have been to Jonathen cr. twice lately and NO crappie.
