I'm glad that you brought this up. I usually go down there at least one time each summer. I fish for crappie and bluegill but haven't ever had a whole lot of luck. The water is very clear so that is different from fishing T'ville. I'll be going next month so I'd like to hear some input on this too.

Oh yeah, I have caught some trout below the dam before.

Late july and august is usually a good months to catch spots that are suspended.
I have never caught a crappie out on the lake. I use to work at grove marina and there around the store is the only place a I have been able to catch any crappie. The ones I have caught and seen caught have been decent size. But the better times there was in the spring. Bluegill are fairly easy to catch but no size. Trout fishing at night under lights is pretty good.

Laurel Lake is known for trout and smallmouth. My cousins fish a tournament
every Tuesday night. Have been doing O.K. but last report they had slowed down. I used to catch my limit of trout every night out. Last three years we have caught nothing. I dont think they turn in near as many as they used to. Bluegill bite all over the lake. A few catfish are caught but not many.
Haven't fished for crappie there in years. When they first opened the lake in the 60's, you could catch as many as you wanted most days. As the lake filled in to depths of up to 300 ft crappie became hard to find. It's hard to fish this time of year with all the boaters. Its one of the most played on lakes in the state because of the clear water.

Do you catch very many good bluegill this time of the year? I only catch a few decent bluegills down there during the summer. I've never been down there when they were bedding.

I fished laurel this past saturday for bass didn't catch any fish. Good a few bits up real shallow before it got dark I think they were real small bass or bluegill.
